There have literally been cases where I have bought the games on steam that I have for free on epic.
Steam is just my go to for almost everything (apart from GOG sometimes), especially being on Linux where steam proton is literally goated.

Steams runs supreme due to the fact that they are the only ones holding the standard for quality in games. Without Steam every greedy business man would want the standards as low as mobile games.
